I’ve been studying traditional Norwegian music for a long time to learn more about its micro intervals and rhythmic characteristics. Løp, lokk, og linjar, a five movement piece, is the first work in which I’ve used complete melodies that I had transcribed previously. The third movement Fuglar, fe og folk (birds songs and cattle calls), begins with the song of a nightingale transcribed for instruments in the most precise manner: to acheive this, I used a timbre notation technique which I refined while studying Pierre Schaeffer’ Solfège des objets sonores.
