Guitar Session

Upon graduating from the Conservatoire de musique de Québec in 1979, Denis Poliquin received the first prize in guitar unanimously. A scholarship to the Banff School of Arts enabled him to pursue his training with renowned guitarists Kenny Wheeler and David Holland. In 1984 and in 1986, he won the first prize in composition at the Carrefour mondial de guitare in Martinique.

As a soloist, he has performed at: the Toronto Guitar Festival; Festival d’été de Québec; Festival international de jazz de Saint-Malo, France and for Radio-Canada (Jeunes artistes de Jazz en liberté). Denis Poliquin and Marc Bélanger are the SI ÇA JAZZ duo. He is a founding member of NEJ quartet, with Nathalie Bonin, (violin), Anne-Marie Cassidy(cello) and Fabrice Laurent (percussion), as well as composer/arranger and performer with Kim Yaroschevskaya.

Denis Poliquin taught in the different music conservatories in Québec for eight years. He now manages the Académie de guitare de Montréal and is vice-president of the Société de Guitare de Montréal. His compositions are available at Éditions d’OZ.
