PROGRAM

This intensive one-week program is geared towards advanced level harpsichordists and pianists (minimum age of 18).

It offers keyboard players the opportunity to improve their harpsichord and pianoforte skills and to learn the basics of historically inspired interpretation and the practice of the basso continuo with hands-on experience at the harpsichord.

The program consists of:

  • Private lessons: (piano, harpsichord and piano-forte)
  • Teachers: Mélisande McNabney, Richard Paré
  • Workshops specifically dedicated to learning basso continuo, ornamentation, and improvisation.
  • Chamber music with the participants and teachers of the Woodwinds

Available instruments include:
-Two-manual harpsichord made by Frank Hubbard, copy of Ruckers/Taskin
-Two-manual harpsichord made by Yves Beaupré, copy of Mietke
-Two-manual harpsichord made by Alain Rousseau
-Pianoforte 5 octaves, made by Rodney Regier, copy of Walter


THE program also INCLUDES

  • A participation to a student concert of the Academy or Domaine sur la route as a soloist or chamber musician
  • An audio recording of the concert performance
  • Official attestation of participation to the program
  • Access to all Academy classes and activities for the entire program: masterclasses, workshops, and conferences
  • Free access to Domaine Forget International Festival concerts during the program. (Restrictions may apply for certain concerts).
  • Student evening activities bonfire, sports activities, tourist outings, movies, yoga etc.
  • Individual practice huts and spaces situated on the enchanting site in the middle of nature
  • Three meals a day in the Joseph-Rouleau pavilion, which has a large terrace and marvelous view overlooking the St. Lawrence River
  • Double or quadruple occupancy lodging

APPLYING FOR ADMISSION

Complete all steps of the online application form, pay the registration fee (CAN $85) and provide the audition materiel by February 10, 2023.

All applications are automatically eligible for the scholarship program.

In the scholarship awarding process, the evaluation committee will consider the quality of the audition material, the excellent nature of the candidate’s file.

To submit a request for additional financial assistance, a justification letter must be included in your file.

AUDITION MATERIAL (piano, harpsichord and/or piano-forte)

  • Two (2) contrasting movements from a J.S. Bach Suite (English Suites, French Suites or Partitas) OR a Prelude and Fugue.
  • Two contrasting movements from a harpsichord suite by a French Baroque composer OR a first movement from a classical sonata
  • 1 imposed work: Sonata K 1 in D minor by Domenico Scarlatti.
  • Current biography and résumé (CV)
  • Profile picture

Please upload three (3) separate videos for the three (3) individual works; public or unlisted YouTube, Vimeo or DropBox links or any other link directly accessible without a password and clearly labeled. Recordings should be recent (less than 12 months).

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

  • Arrival: Sunday, June 18, 2023, as of 2PM (classes begin on Monday, June 19, 2023)
  • Departure: Saturday, June 24, 2023, after breakfast

PAYMENT INFORMATION

First installment
To confirm and reserve your place a first deposit, a non-refundable fee covering about half the cost of your session is required within seven (7) days following your acceptance letter and invoice.

Second installment
The second payment is due no later than May 1, 2023.


CANCELLATION / REFUND

CANCELLATION POLICY:

1st installment (50% of session fees) payable within 7 days of receipt of your invoice: non-refundable.
N.B.: This first payment is used to confirm and reserve your place in the program.
2nd installment (remaining balance): 50% refund of the amount paid if canceled at least 30 days before the start of the program.

If you cancel your participation in the session for any reason other than medical (doctor's note required) 30 days or less before the start of the program: no refund.

No refund as of May 2, 2023.

Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix reserves the right to cancel any program if circumstances demand it. All fees already paid will then be reimbursed. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Domaine Forget uses Paypal for secure payments. Email confirmation (in addition to the automated PayPal notification email) will be sent as soon as possible, once payment has been confirmed. Payment confirmation may take a few days. Remember: You must enter the amount you wish to pay and the full name of the registering student.
