Due to COVID-19, the Summer 2020 dance workshop will be offered in an e-learning environment. The professors will be teaching directly from the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix dance studios and classes will be broadcast to students. The teachers and delegated dance curator will guide participants in their personal practice. Participants will receive a minimum of 3 hours of classes per day, as well as various talks on the current situation and how it affects the multiple aspects of a dancer’s training journey.
Domaine Forget de Charlevoix is proud to support as many dancers as possible to participate in this workshop by offering a $150 scholarship to each participant!
Workshop - Improvisation and repertoire
In this choreographic workshop, dancers will learn excerpts from Anne’s repertoire and discover her method of improvisation based on the attentive observation of one's inner impulses. They will work on the limitations of space of the current situation and on creating solo work through specific creative exercises. Autonomy in one’s professional practice will also be addressed in this class.
For 20 years, Anne Plamondon dances for major choreographers, first within Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and the Gulbenkian Ballet, before joining Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot and Victor Quijada’s RUBBERBANDance, assuming the company’s co-artistic direction from 2006-2015. Now a choreographer, Anne creates The Same Eyes as Yours (2012) and Night Mechanics (2017), before founding her own company and creating commissioned works for various structures, among which Fall for Dance North / the Ryerson School of Dance and Alberta Ballet. Her most recent piece Seulement toi will tour Canada and the world in 2020-21.
Introduction to the RUBBERBAND Method - Distance Learning Version 1.0
In the time of COVID-19, we are exploring and developing new ways to share and transmit our approach to movement and the body across digital platforms.
RUBBERBAND Method is a comprehensive approach to moving the body through space, partnering, floor work, inversions, movement creation for choreography and improvisation.
In these Zoom sessions, we will introduce the basic building blocks of physical and conceptual understanding necessary to integrate the RUBBERBAND Method.
90 minutes workshops sessions will be led by Paco Ziel (Artistic Coordinator - RUBBERBAND). Participants will be guided through structured improvisations, rhythmic tasks, and choreographic prompts in order to experience the ethos of the RUBBERBAND Method.
Paco Ziel began studying music and art at age 12 at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico, his country of origin. He won a scholarship to attend Estudio Profesional de Danza Ema Pulido, where he honed his technique and performance skills. He came to Montreal in 2011 to continue training in classical ballet at l’École supérieure de ballet du Québec. His choreography, Huapango, won first prize at the 2011 Bravissimo competition, and another work, Mexica, garnered positive reviews from Mexican critics. Ziel is a co-founder of the Montreal-based dance collective, Quantum. He joined RUBBERBAND in 2015.
