PROGRAM WITH LES VIOLONS DU ROY

This intensive two-week program, presented in collaboration with Les Violons du Roy under the direction of Julien Chauvin and Jean-Marie Zeitouni is intended for very advanced or professional level instrumentalists (minimum age of 18) who wish to develop a greater expertise in mastering the different aesthetics and particularities of playing in a chamber orchestra, covering a repertoire ranging from the Baroque period to the Romantic period.

The program includes:

  • Rehearsals and concert performances alongside the musicians of Les Violons du Roy and Pentaèdre, with conductors Julien Chauvin et Jean-Marie Zeitouni.
  • Sectionals and thematic workshops: bow techniques, scores analysis, history, aesthetics, etc.
  • Group lessons with members of Les Violons du Roy and Pentaèdre.
  • Participation to the Academy concert on Sunday, August 13, 2023, with members of Les Violons du Roy and Pentaèdre, with conductor Julien Chauvin.
  • Participation to the Academy concert on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, with some members of Les Violons du Roy and Pentaèdre.
  • Participation in the Academy concert on Thursday, August 17, 2023, with Les Violons du Roy and Pantaèdre, with conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni.

2023 CONCERTO CONTEST

The first part of the competition will take place in the winter of 2023 and the competition is open to string instrumentalists. To participate, candidates must prepare a complete concerto of their choice from the Baroque or Classical period with piano accompaniment. For all the details click here.

The finalists of the competition will receive a full scholarship to participate in the 2023 Chamber Orchestra session and the winner will perform solo, accompanied by the Academy Orchestra and the Violons du Roy during the concert on Thursday, August 17, 2023 with conductor Jean-Marie-Zeitouni.


THE PROGRAM also INCLUDES

  • Access to all the Academy classes and activities for the entire session
  • Official attestation of participation to the program
  • Free access to le Domaine Forget International Festival concerts during the session (Restrictions may apply for certain concerts)
  • Student evening activities such as bonfire, sports activities, tourist outings, movies, etc.
  • Individual practice huts and spaces situated on the enchanting site in the middle of nature
  • Three meals a day in the Joseph-Rouleau pavilion
  • Double or quadruple occupancy lodging

APPLying FOR ADMISSION

Complete all steps of the online application form, pay the registration fee (CAN $85), and provide the audition materiel by February 10, 2023.

All applications are automatically eligible for the scholarship program.

In the scholarship awarding process, the evaluation committee will consider the quality of the audition material, the excellent nature of the candidate’s file.

To submit a request for additional financial assistance, a justification letter must be included in your file.

AUDITION MATERIAL

  • 2 works of your choice of contrasting character, including at least one with piano accompaniment of a minimum length of 15 minutes
  • Current biography and résumé (CV) including all orchestral experience
  • Profile picture

Please upload two (2) separate videos for the two (2) individual works; public or unlisted YouTube, Vimeo or DropBox links or any other link directly accessible without a password and clearly labeled. Recordings should be recent (less than 12 months).

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

  • Arrival: Monday, August 7, 2023, as of 2 PM (classes begin on Tuesday, August 8, 2022)
  • Departure: Saturday, August 19, 2023 after breakfast

PAYMENT INFORMATION

First installment
To confirm and reserve your place a first deposit, a non-refundable fee covering about half the cost of your session is required within seven (7) days following your acceptance letter and invoice.

Second installment
The second payment is due no later than May 1, 2023.


CANCELLATION / REFUND

CANCELLATION POLICY:

1st installment (50% of session fees) payable within 7 days of receipt of your invoice: non-refundable.
N.B.: This first payment is used to confirm and reserve your place in the program.
2nd installment (remaining balance): 50% refund of the amount paid if canceled at least 30 days before the start of the program.

If you cancel your participation in the session for any reason other than medical (doctor's note required) 30 days or less before the start of the program: no refund.

No refund as of May 2, 2023.

Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix reserves the right to cancel any program if circumstances demand it. All fees already paid will then be reimbursed. Registration fees are non-refundable.


 

Paypal

Domaine Forget uses Paypal for secure payments. Email confirmation (in addition to the automated PayPal notification email) will be sent as soon as possible, once payment has been confirmed. Payment confirmation may take a few days. Remember: You must enter the amount you wish to pay and the full name of the registering student.
