Summer 2021 was without a doubt the most rewarding and memorable of all my stays at Domaine Forget. The pandemic was stressful; it filled me with doubts and limitations about my musical ambitions. But attending the Academy has inspired me enormously and has given me strength and support for my future in the music world. The scholarship I received was instrumental in giving me my motivation back. Without the generosity of donors, I wouldn’t be as confident about my future as a musician as I am today.
Want to have a lasting impact on the career of a young artist? With a donation of $5,000, you can create a scholarship in your name and sponsor an intern during their 2022 internship. You will have the chance to personally meet them during their stay at Domaine Forget and learn more about their career.
A donation of $5,000 or more may be eligible for an additional income tax credit for a large donation to a cultural organization.
I am very grateful to have received a scholarship that allowed me to participate in the 2021 Domaine Forget dance program. The two weeks I spent here were filled with moments of discovery, sweat and fun. All the teachers I had the chance to dance along helped me elevate my art. After spending eight months dancing on Zoom alone in my living room, it was an absolute dream to be part of this valuable learning experience. Domaine Forget is a magical place and I consider myself so lucky to have been able to attend the Academy.
Every year, the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix International Music and Dance Academy welcomes hundreds of young musicians and dancers from around the world. More than 18,000 students from 23 different countries have attended Domaine Forget since its inception in 1978. The Academy acts as a true springboard for young artists and many Domaine Forget alumni are now members of music ensemble and dance companies of all sizes in Canada, the United States and Europe. Others choose to teach at major institutions or pursue prolific careers as soloists.
The Academy offers students one-on-one lessons with leading music and dance teachers, master classes with guest artist-professors, opportunities to perform in our acoustically exceptional hall, and many other activities that expand their career opportunities. Domaine Forget provides an exceptional learning environment that allows young talents to flourish in an international community. For any young musician or dancer, a summer internship at Domaine Forget allows them to consolidate their knowledge, materialize their passion and explore uncharted territory. In short, it can change their lives.
Created in 1998, the Jacqueline and Paul Desmarais Scholarship Fund, partially invested in perpetuity, totals more than $2.7 million. Initially, $10,000 were awarded to Academy students annually. Today, more than $235,000 are awarded to approximately 200 students every summer, of which approximately $77,000 come from this very fund. Through this fund, we guarantee scholarships for the coming summer's students, but also for several generations of young artists who will study at Domaine.
This fund is named after late arts patron Jacqueline Desmarais and her husband Paul. Involved in the early development of Domaine Forget, Mrs. and Mr. Desmarais greatly contributed to the development of the Academy. Through their love of the arts and their unconditional support for young artists, hundreds of young people have benefited from their commitment to provide excellence and accessibility in music and dance education. Mrs. and Mr. Desmarais' legacy continues to positively impact the careers of hundreds of students each year.
